Snohomish County Superior Court Clerk

Request Audio Recording

HOW DO I REQUEST AN AUDIO RECORDING?

To request a copy of a digital audio recording of a court proceeding, complete the secure online order form on the right and submit the order.  When you make your first request, you will create a user account in TheRecordXchange.  You will be asked to make a payment via credit or debit card.  If you need to make other payment arrangements, you can select the blue circle at the bottom right of the screen to get help. Digital audio recordings can be downloaded or you can play the recording directly from your online account.

Please Note: Digital audio recordings may not be available for all Court proceedings.  Court hearings may be reported by a traditional court reporter or recorded electronically.  If a court reporter was present at the court hearing, the court reporter is the only person available to prepare a verbatim transcript of the reported proceeding.  Once an order is submitted, the Clerk's Office staff will determine if the ordered audio is available.   If the ordered audio is not available, a refund will be given.

Sealed court records access requires court approval and proof of identification. If the audio from a court proceeding is sealed or confidential, you must appear in person to request and, if authorized to access the case, provide government issued picture ID and payment for the request.

If you would like to confirm if a digital audio recording is available prior to submitting a request, please contact the Clerk's office at 425-388-3466

IS A VIDEO RECORDING AVAILABLE?

No.  The Court recording system records audio only; no video is captured.

WHAT IS THE COST FOR AN AUDIO RECORDING?

Audio recordings are $25.00 per hearing date. The Court must receive payment in full before processing your order. You can pay with a credit or debit card. If you need to make other payment arrangements, you can select the blue circle at the bottom right of the screen to get help.  If the audio requested covers multiple recording/hearing dates, there will be a $25.00 fee for each recording.

CAN I USE THE AUDIO RECORDING AS THE OFFICIAL COURT RECORD?

Digital audio recordings are made from the original master recordings of a Court’s proceedings and are available for verification of testimony only.  They are not certified for Court use and may not be used as the official Court record in place of an official transcript. The Clerk's Office does not provide transcription services.

HOW WILL I KNOW WHEN MY AUDIO RECORDING IS AVAILABLE?

Requests for digital audio recordings are reviewed and processed during regular Clerk's Office business hours.

You will have access to your request on this site via streaming or download link. Once your request is completed you will receive an email notification letting you know the audio recording is available.  The email will contain a link to bring you back to your request. The Court does not guarantee that recordings will be available for all proceedings requested.  If a recording is available and you are authorized to receive it, you will be able to download it or play the recording directly from your online account.

HOW LONG WILL THE AUDIO RECORDING BE AVAILABLE?

Recordings are available to stream or download for 30 days from the date the request is fulfilled.  After 30 days has expired, the audio is removed from the system and a new request will need to be submitted.
